1. Vitrobot Replacement Tweezers
Designed specifically for the Thermo Fisher Vitrobot Mark IV, these Vitrobot replacement tweezers feature ultra-fine DUMONT #5 tips mounted on a precision dovetail. They ensure perfect alignment during the plunge-freezing process.
Available in two configurations:
- Slide-Clamp Tweezers: Traditional design with a locking ring for secure grid retention.
- Self-Closing Tweezers (Reverse Action): Enables one-handed operation. The tweezers hold the grid securely in their resting state and release only when pressure is applied, reducing hand fatigue and risk of dropping grids.
2. AutoGrid Handling Tweezers
Handling clipped AutoGrids requires specific geometry. Our AutoGrid tweezers feature a specially machined step cut-out at the tip. This design securely grips the AutoGrid ring rim, allowing for safe transfer from the clipping station to the cassette under liquid nitrogen.
These are anti-magnetic tweezers made from high-grade alloys (Dumoxel/Dumostar) to prevent interference with the electron beam and resist corrosion in cryogenic environments.

Yes. The Vitrobot tweezers assembly (47000-500/505) includes the specific dovetail mount required to fit the plunger of the FEI/Thermo Fisher Vitrobot Mark IV, III, II, and I.
2. What is the benefit of self-closing tweezers?
Self-closing tweezers (or reverse action) naturally hold the grid closed without applying hand pressure. This is safer for cryo grid manipulation as it prevents accidental dropping if your hand slips or gets tired.
3. Can I use standard tweezers for AutoGrids?
It is not recommended. Standard tips can slip off the metal ring. AutoGrid tweezers have a "step" machined into the tip that physically interlocks with the ring, providing a secure hold for AutoGrid clipping and loading.
4. Are the tips replaceable?
For the Vitrobot assembly, the entire tweezer unit is typically replaced to ensure the dovetail alignment remains precise. However, we offer high-quality DUMONT tweezers as standalone replacements for general handling.
